But why?
Glad you asked! Scroll down and allow me to explain why my services can make a big difference and be of value to your business, starting with the Big One:
“How does design help my business?”
Graphic design isn’t just about making things “look good”—it’s a business tool. One that directly impacts brand perception, marketing success, and customer retention. In short, it is an integral part of business strategy. In fact, it’s an execution of your strategy. Investing in professional graphic design pays off in stronger brand equity, and ultimately, increased revenue. It helps you stand out on a crowded market, enhances perceived value (leading to higher sales) and boosts engagement and brand loyalty.
An Adobe-commissioned report by Forrester Research (link) states that 73% of companies investing in graphic design experience better customer engagement. Forrester Research has also shown that well-designed UX/UI (which includes graphic design) can increase conversion rates by up to 400% (link).
Graphic Design ≠ Art Direction
Being both a Graphic Designer and Art Director I understand the confusion around the definitions as there is often some overlap. I’ll paraphrase someone (I forget the name) who I think broke it down beautifully:
“The defining responsibility of a designer is EXECUTION. Designers create layouts, typography, color palettes, and imagery. They are hands-on and focused on producing deliverables.
Art Directors develop creative concepts and overarching visual direction. They focus on STRATEGY and leading the creative process, rather than executing designs.
I believe that the best designers will embody the characteristics of both roles. Concept and strategy is a key part of design and I’d argue that anything less is just decoration. Likewise, an AD with the hands-on skills to craft their own creative vision is invaluable.”
“Design, art… what’s the difference?”
Art can send a message or play the human emotional spectrum. That alone doesn’t make a clear distinction as design can also do that. However, design is much more utilitarian. It supports and works towards a very specific goal. Art makes me want to sit and ponder life, design makes me want to use your app to buy a new lawn mower.
